How to apply for postgraduate programmes

2024/25 Applications are now open.

Before starting your application, please ensure that you read and refer to all available guidance. Once you have all the required documentation, you can proceed to our Online Application System by selecting the relevant “Apply Now” link below. We start assessing all submitted applications after the published deadline. All late applications are released and assessed on a rolling basis. 

 

Our programmes have different application deadlines. Please ensure you are applying for the programme you wish to apply and check the deadline before you make an application. We may not be able to accept late applications unless otherwise stated.  

Please note each ‘Apply Now’ button takes you to an individual application portal for a particular course. For example, if you wish to apply for the MA History of Art programme, please scroll down this page and click ‘Apply Now’ where it says ‘MA History of Art’.

MA History of Art

2024/25  Applications are now open. 

Application deadline: 26th January 2024.

You can either make a general application for the MA, or you may indicate your preferred Special Option(s). Many applicants choose to make a general application for the MA in History of Art at the 鶹Ƶ. If you do this we will match your application to a Special Option that matches your interests and has space. Alternatively you may indicate your preference for up to three Special Options, tailoring personal statements in relation to each Special Option.

Please note late applications for the options which are full will be automatically considered for other available options. Depending on the timing of your application, you may not be eligible to apply for scholarships or accommodation. We will stop accepting late applications on the 1st August for international students/15th August for Home students.

Late Applications will be released and assessed on a rolling basis.

MA in Buddhist Art History and Conservation

2024/25  Applications are now open. 

Application Deadline: 26th January 2024

Shortlisted applicants will be invited for online interview.

 

Graduate Diploma in the History of Art

2024/25  Applications are now open. 

Application Deadline: 19th April 2024

MA Conservation of Easel Paintings

2024/25 Applications are now open. 

Application Deadline: 04 January 2024.

 

Interviews: Around 20 applicants are selected for interview for six available places, plus a short waiting list. The selection process has several components: Interviews are held online and will take place between 12th and 23th February 2024. Interviewees will be asked to complete a practical test to assess manual dexterity and colour matching. Materials will be posted for this and finished tests must be returned by post before the interviews. A short online slide test will be set to assess observational skills. Interviewees are asked to submit a portfolio of photographs of a small sample of original artwork by them. Students must have normal colour vision and a colour-blindness test is carried out.

  You will be contacted before the end of March 2024 with a final decision on your application.

MA in Curating the Art Museum

This programme will not run for the 24/25 Academic Year.

Applications for the 25/26 Academic Year will open in late Autumn 2024.

Applications received after the deadline will not be considered.

No offers will be made without interviews for the MA Curating the Art Museum programme.

Conservation of wall painting students

PhD Research

Applications are now closed for 2024/25.

Before you can submit a full PhD programme application and contact your preferred supervisor, you must send a pre-application proposal (including your Research Title and Potential Supervisor) and your CV  by email to pgadmissions@courtauld.ac.uk

  • Research Proposal Summary – 300 words (including Research Proposal Title and which member of faculty you wish to ask to be your supervisor and why)
  • CV

We will assess your pre-application proposal and, if appropriate, discuss your proposal with your preferred supervisor before providing feedback. Should your pre-application proposal be approved, you will be invited to submit a full programme application and provided with an application link to the main programme application portal.

Pre-application proposal deadline: 17 November 2023 (Passed)

Programme Application Deadline: final candidates who are selected to advance to full application stage, please be appraised the due date will be 8 Jan 2024

The Programme Application Portal link will be provided once your pre-application is approved.

After you have submitted a full programme application, you will be contacted in January 2024 with a final decision about your application.

Please note that students requiring a Tier 4 visa to study in the UK cannot study part-time.
